Panerai Tourbillon. We previously wrote about the Luminor 1950 Titanium Tourbillon GMT PAM 306 released at Basel World 2008. Together with the Luminor tourbillon, Office Paneira Also released a pair of Radiomir Tourbillon GMT's, the PAM 315 and 316, in titanium and platinum casings, respectively.
Radiomir and Luminor. Radiomir was the self-luminescent material used to paint the hands and numerals on the dial of the watch. Later, Panerai changed this material to “Luminor” which was still self-luminescent, but not as dangerous as the original radioactive material. Panerai named its watches after the material by the luminescent it used.
The two watches, the Radiomir's and Luminor's, are most distinguishable by the presence of the Panerai Crown Locking Guard mechanism on the Luminor's. Other than that, most models can be found in both Radiomir and Luminor casings.
Officine Panerai Radiomir Titanium Tourbillon GMT PAM 00315. It is not different with the PAM 315, which is the Radiomir equivalent of the The PAM 306 Luminor. Both dual time watches, have hour, minute and a second time zone hand on the main dial. Day-night indicators are found in in a sub-dial at 3 o'clock and a seconds hand on a second sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position.
The PAM 315 is a larger with a 48mm diameter case, the PAM 306 having a 47mm case . Both cases is rated as water resistant to 100m. Both are tourbillon watches.

What is a tourbillon? The tourbillon was invented in 1795 by Abraham-Louis Breguet. Mechanical timepieces are affected by gravity. In order to counter the effects of gravity, Abraham-Louis Breguet built a watch that counteracted gravity by rotating the balance wheel of a watch or clock through 360 degrees. This is called a tourbillon.
This is accomplished by mounting the escapement in a rotating frame, called a "carriage" which turns at regular intervals, usually once a minute. This rotation reduces the positional errors of the movement.
At that time almost Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the tourbillon almost all watches were pocket watches which stayed in one position most of the time. The only time a pocket watch changes position is when it's taken out by the owner to check the time.
The effect of gravity on a watch or clock kept in one position all the time, like a pocket watch, is particularly noticeable on the escapement, especially the balance which rocks back and forth. This can lead to inaccuracies. Breuget's solution was the tourbillon.
Today, most tourbillons are found in wristwatches. People tend to move their arm as they go about their day, which provides the changes in position required to offset the effects of gravity on the watch movement. This negates the need for one a tourbillon. Today tourbillon watches are valued as a display of watchmaking prowess, in the same way complication watches are desirable.
Both the PAM 306 and 315 are powered by the Calibre P.2005, a manual winding movement with a tourbillon escapement. The Calibre P.2005 is one of Panerai's in-house or manifattura movements. This movement has a 6 day power reserve. The movement produces 28,800 vibration per hour (4Hz).The Panerai tourbillon cage rotates on an axis at right angles to the axis of the balance wheel and makes two rotations per minute. This rotation, is twice as fast as the usual.
On the dials of both watches there is a little ecru indicator within the seconds counter at 9 o’clock, which travels twice as quickly as the seconds hand, making one rotation every 30 seconds, because it moves at the speed of the tourbillon cage.

Pricing. We still do not know the suggested retail price of the PAM 306 and 315, but given that the PAM 276, which is identical to the PAM 306 except for the titanium case and color of the dial and strap, is price at US$110,000, we expect the PAM 306 and 315 to cost substantially more than that.
