Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT PAM 00233

Officine Panerai Luminor PAM 00233. Panerai's line-up of watches with in-house movements is Panerai's premium line, and like other premium lines commands a high price. Last week we took a look at the entry level to the Panerai manifattura line-up: the Radiomir PAM 268. While the PAM 268 is a interesting watch with its 8 day movement, our favorite bang for the buck manifattura is the PAM 233. Prices at 25% higher than the PAM 268, the PAM 233 brings in a rather unique approach to the GMT watch.

Eight day movement.
Like the PAM 268, the PAM 233 has has a manual winding movement with an 8 day power reserve. The PAM 233 uses in-house Panerai Calibre 2002/1 movement. The Panerai Calibre 2002/1 movement has the date complication, a second hour hand, a day/night indicator and a power reserve indicator.

Twelve Hour GMT. Unlike most GMT watches, including Panerai's own GMT watches, the manifattura line uses an second 12-hour hand, rather than a 24 hour hand. This second hour hand, can be set independently from the main hour hand so as to tell display the time in a different time zone. A day/night indicator will display whether it is AM or PM in the second time zone.

Other specifications. The PAM 233 comes in the typical 44 mm diameter Panerai Luminor case built in stainless steel. The bezel of the case is polished while the case itself is brushed. It has a water resistance rating of 100 meters (like other Manifattura Luminor's), as against the typical Panerai Luminor watch which has a 300 meter water resistance rating. The main reason for this in the 2mm thick sapphire crystal covers used on the manifattura's as against the 3.5mm sapphire crystal used in other Panerai Luminors.

Like other Luminor's it has screws holding the leather strap, which makes it easier to change the strap.

. The PAM 233 comes in Rose Gold. The Rose Gold variant is called the PAM 289, and at US$28K cost more than twice as much as the PAM 233.
