Oris BC4 Flight Timer

New for 2008. Oris has released a gaggle of new watches for 2008. While the new watches do not introduce any new features they incorporate tried and tested Oris mechanical designs principles into a new generation of cases.

Oris BC4 Flight Timer. The Oris BC4 Flight Timer is a dual time watch which integrates as compass and 12 hour timer on a rotating ring. The BC4 Flight Timer keeps track of the first time zone using the main hour and seconds hands. The second time zone is kept by a subdial at the three o'clock position with its own set of hour and minute hands. The second time zone is intended to keep track of home time. Continuous seconds is displayed by a second sub-dial located at the 9 o'clock position. The date is displayed by a window located at the 6 o'clock position.

The buttons on the four and eight o'clock positions are a pair of quick adjustment buttons which move the hour hand in the main dial by plus one hour and minus hour increments with each button press. We first looked at this feature in our look at the Oris Aterlier World Timer.

The rotating ring around the dial is manipulated by using the crown located at the 2 o'clock position. The rotating ring displays N-E-W-S markings so that the watch can be used as a compass, and it is also marked with 12 hours markers which would allow it to keep track of a third time zone or measure periods of elapsed time.

The new look. The BC4 Flight Timer has a new squarish case which gets its inspiration from an instrument panel has a 42.7 mm case diameter. Protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal glass which is domed on both sides and has anti-reflective coating. The case back has a mineral glass display which allows a view of the movement. The case is water resistant to 100 meters.

Two models of the BC4 Flight Timer are available, one with a black leather strap and the other with a steel bracelet.

Movement. The BC4 Flight Timer is power be the Oris 690 movement, which is a modified ETA 2836-2 movement. This movement produces 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a 38 hour power reserve.

Packaging. The BC4 Flight Timer comes in a presentation box with an Oris branded Compass.
