Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse

Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse. Following the subtle elegance of the Calatrava design, Patek Philippe launched the Golden Ellipse in 1968. Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse is available in white gold with a anthracite sunburst dial, yellow gold with a blue sunburst dial and yellow gold with a brown sunburst dial.

The case of these watches have thin 31 mm x 36 mm cases. Housed inside the case is Patek Philippes ultra thin Calibre 240 movement. The Calibre 240 is self-winding movement which is all of 2.53 mm thick. The Calibre 240 produces 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 44 hour power reserve. Making these thin automatic movements is a Patek Philippe speciality, with its closest rival being the equally prestigous Vecheron Constantin company.

In order to make the movement ultra-thin and off-center mini-rotor is used. You can find a more detailed explanation and a clearer diagram of this technology in our previous article on the Patek Philippe 5118/1G skeleton.
