Basel 2009 - Pre-Basel Part 2

This article started here.

What people are really waiting for from Rolex is a updated version of the stainless steel Rolex Submariner. We think this will be out in 2010, but you never know.

Now a lot of rumors have been floating around. From a 41mm Datejust's and GMT II's with bi-colored bezels, which we are likely to see in a few years time... to a Rolex Daytona-Date which we may never see. If we had to be it on, we think that the most likely line to get be updated this year is either the Rolex Explorer I or Explorer II. Why? Well they are relatively slow-moving watches which have not been upgraded for the longest time. Both watches are also lower cost entry level Rolex's, and it makes sence to focus on this segment during though economic times.

What do we expect might be done with the Explorer I? We would expect to see it in 40mm Rolex Milgauss case with brighter colors on the dial to appeal to the younger crowd. Maybe a bit of orange and blue.

With the Explorer II, we would expect to see it in the newer maxi case, with a maxi dial, and a new clasp. While we expect a new bezel, we do not expect to see it with a new ceramic bezel, to keep costs below the nearly similarly featured Rolex GMT II.

One or both, or maybe we are dead wrong... either way we will find out soon. Baselworld 2009 is just around the corner.

More to follow....
