I read an interesting rumor in a popular Rolex Forum about the release by Rolex of a new 42mm Cosmograph Daytona at Basel 2010. Frankly, we do not think that is too likely. With the new Submariner there is no need to right now. The year 2011 is the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Cosmograph, and 2012 is the 50th years of the Cosmograph Daytona. Maybe next year?
The 42mm size seems unlikely to us to. Rolex is building bigger watches these days. The Yatchmaster II and Seadweller DEEPSEA are both 43mm and the Day-Date II and Datejust II are at 41mm. If we see a new bigger, Daytona, we expect to see it with a 41mm or 43mm case diameter.
We do agree with two things. First, a new Daytona is likely to have a date display. Second, a new Daytona will not replace the older 40mm model, but will be sold side-by-side with the older watch, as is happening with the Day-Date II and Datejust II.
