Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5127 Updated

Discontinued? In December 2009, Patek Philippe removed the Calatrava Ref. 5127 from their website, and apparently discontinued the model. After Patek Philippe updated their website to show the new Models released at Baselworld 2010, the Rev. 5127 was again included in their website.

The Ref. 5127G in white gold

What is the Ref. 5127? The Ref. 5127 is one of Patek Philippe's Calatrava line of round watches. It's distinction is that it is cased in the same round case with crown guards as the Ref. 5118. These two models are the only current production Calatrava's with crown guards. Combined with a self-winding movement, date display and center seconds hand and 37mm diameter case, make it arguably the most contemporary of all the Calatrava models.

The Ref. 5127 comes in a choice of yellow, white or rose gold case on a black leather strap.

What is new with the Ref. 5127? While there was no change in the model number, the Ref. 5127 has been improved or updated. The Ref. 5127 used to be powered by the Caliber 315 S C movement which produced 21,600 vibrations per hour. The newer Ref. 5127 is now powered by the Caliber 324 S C movement which runs at a higher beat 28,800 vibrations per hour. This will give the seconds hand a smoother sweep as it goes around the dial. The Caliber 324 S C movement, at 45 hours, is 3 hours less than the Caliber 315 S C. It looks like the update was to streamline the movements used in the line-up as the Ref. 5127 was the last watch to use the Caliber 315 movement.
