A new years message

The new year, and a new decade is fast approaching. With each passing year, the new replaces the old and todays current state of the art, soon fades into obsolescence. That is not the case with the watch industry.  On the one hand, you have the best and most accurate wrist tools ever made which combine timekeeping with wrist computers designed for the diver, the pilot, the explorer and other professionals who rely on timepieces for a living. At the same time, fine manually wound wristwatches, which bear little difference from the first wristwatches eighty years ago are still in production and greatly desired.

The Patek Philip Ref. 5196 is the contemporary
version of the companies commercial wristwatch, the Ref. 96

The industry has both moved forward and stayed in place. The first quarter of every year brings the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie and BaselWorld where the worlds top watchmakers will show their latest innovations and their latest classics. The coming quarter is the most exciting time of the year for the horologist. With that, I bid you all a happy new year and for another good year writing about our timeless timepieces.
