Time flies. It has been a year since the new Rolex Explorer, Ref. 214270, was announced. By this time every Authorized Distributor should be able to get you one. The watch has a list price of US$6,200.
When we saw that JK Watchstore had a sample of the 39mm Rolex Explorer in stock, and excellent pictures, we thought it may be time to take another look at this watch.

Rolex Explorer Ref. 214270. The Ref. 214270 Explorer was announced at BaselWorld 2010. The style dis not depart much from the previous version, and it did not have too. The previous model Rolex Explorer I was a popular design, but its 36mm case size was seen by some as too small for todays standards.
The new 39mm case size seemed about right, and the consensus is that it is about the right size. What has been most controversial about the new design is that hands seem little to thin and too short, to some.

Inside, the new 39mm case is a refined movement, a COSC certified Calibre 3132 movement. This brings the a Parachrom hairspring with Breguet overcoil and Paraflex shock absorber to the Explorer I line.

As with all the newly updated Rolex watches, the Ref. 214270 Explorer gets a new Oysterlock clasp with Easylink comfort extension link.
In the end Rolex did a good, if rather safe, job of updating this classic design. Without a date display, this watch will appeal to a small niche market, but Rolex Explorer's are supposed to appeal to small market. It is the Rolex Datejust that is designed to appeal to a wider market.
