JK Watchstore, who graciously allows us to use their pictures in this, blog has the new Rolex Explorer II Ref. 216570 bk on stock. The new Explorer II was announced at BaselWorld 2011. This is the first Rolex watch to feature the new larger 42mm case.

I was not too fond of was the new Maxi dial that Rolex has become the standard for all updated Rolex watches. The Maxi dial which features large hour markers nad hands. While undeniably more functional, I felt that they looked to big for the dial. But the Maxi dial, for me looks perfect on the new larger dial on the 42mm case.

The 24-hour hand which can be used to measure a second time zone is in orange, pays homes with the original Explorer II released in the 1970's.

I think one thing many will appreciate is the new clasp. Not that there was anything functionally wrong with the old one. It just did not seem like it belong to such an expensive watch.

The previous model Rolex Explorer II was always a slow mover in the Rolex line-up, always sold at a fairly large discount. I do not think the same faith awaits the new one. Well at least not until the other professional series Rolex watches migrate to the larger 42 mm case.
