Officine Panerai Luminor GMT PAM 00088

Skeleton Hands. Skeleton hands are not a common feature on Panerai's being found only in their 44 mm GMT watches and their Submersible line, and a few of their Special (Limited) Edition watches. Skeleton hands are often used in watches for purely cosmetic purposes. However, skeleton hands serve a very useful purpose. Initially, skeleton hands were found in chronograph watches so as not to obscure the view of the sub-dials. In Panerai's application they allow for a combination of a large area for applying luminescence as well as allow a clear view GMT hand even when behind the hour and minute hands.

Panerai Luminor GMT PAM 00088. The Luminor GMT PAM 88 belongs to Panerai's contemporary line. It is a dual time watch which uses a fourth hand to keep track of a second time zone. This fourth hand rotates once every 24-hours and can be set independently from the 12-hour hand. In addition, the PAM 88 has a magnified date display at the 3 o'clock position.

The dial of the PAM 88 is a bit busier than most Panerai's. Twenty-four hour markers to be used with the GMT hand adorn the dial together with quarter hour markers for the 12 hour hand. The seconds sub-dial has a concentric silver pattern. This makes for a decided modern looking watch rather than the classic appearance of the found in other Luminor's.

For a Panerai collector, a 44 mm GMT makes for a nice addition to the collection, as the watch has a look distincively different from other Luminor's.

The PAM 88 is powered by a COSC certified automatic Panerai OP VIII movement, which is a Panerai modified Valjoux 7750-P1 movement. The movement produces 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a 42 hour power reserve. The watch is encased in a 44 mm stainless steel case. PAM 88 has a divers watch lineage and this watch has a 300m water resistance rating.
