Sinn U1000 EZM 6 Divers Chronograph

Substeel. Sinn's U series divers watches reputation comes in part from the fact this series of watches is constructed from the same steel that is used on the outer hull of submarines. The steel used in Sinn's U series is manufactured by Emden GmbH, one of Germany’s North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines. This steel, known as Substeel is resistant to corrossion from sea water resistant and also possesses a anti-magnetic quality.

Sinn U1000 EZM 6 Divers Chronograph. The Sinn U1000 EZM 6 is a large watch with a 44 mm case diameter. It is a chronograph watch with utilizing the large seconds hand for the chronograph function, in cunjunction with two totalisators which will measures intervals of time of up to 12 hours. But little about the Sinn U100 EZM 6 is typcial, instead of the usual 30-minute and 12-hour totalisators, the Sinn U100 EZM 6 has 60-minute and 12-hour totalisators.

The start/stop and reset buttons used for manipulating the chronograph, function as well as the crown, are located on the right side of the watch case. This feature is used in divers watches intended to be used on the rigth wrist, leaving the left wrist free for other tools.

Water resistance. The Sinn U1000 EZM 6 is also a divers watch, and for that function has a rotating bezel used for measuring periods of elapsed time of 60 minutes and of course a high water resistance rating. How deep? All of 1000 meters of water pressure, certified to by prestigoius international industrial testing lab Germanischen Lloyd.

More amazing is that fact that the chronograph function is functional at the 1000 meter rating. We previsouly wrote an article on divers chronograph watches, and the Sinn U1000 EZM 6 is in a class by itself.

Bezel. The rotating bezel is also not the typical unidirectional affair. Sinn's implemenation uses the "lock and push" system. The bezel is locked in place and will turn only if downward pressure is applied. The way the bezel is attached to the case is also not typical in this calss of watches. The bezel is attached to the watch with screws rather than friction mounted. These screws prevent the bezel from becoming detached through accidental collission with other objects.

Movement. Sinn uses the commercially available Valjoux 7750 movement used in plenty of other watches. However, Sinn modifies this movement to do some amazing things. Sinn uses Sinn 66-228 oil to in the movement. The Sinn special oil permits a greater range of operating temperatures from - 45º C to + 80º C allowing the watch to hold up to extreme conditions. To counter the affects of moisture and humidity, Sinn uses their "Dry Hold" technology which consists of four copper sulphate capsules and the use of inert gasses sealed within the case.

Sinn modifies the tried and tested Valjoux 7750, which produces 28,800 vibration per hour, to create their own bullet proof SZ-02 calibre.

Sinn watches are made in Germany.

About Sinn. Sinn is a watchmaker in Frankfurt am Main, Germany that was established by pilot and flight instructor Helmut Sinn in 1961. In 1994, Helmut Sinn sold the company to Dipl.-Ing. Under new ownership, Lothar Schmidt changed the name of the company to Sinn - Spezialuhren zu Frankfurt, and created a wider range of watch models. Lothar Schmidt was responsible for the rebuilding of the IWC brand A. Lange & Söhne.
