Skagen Automatic

About Skagen Designs. In 1989, Henrik and Charlotte Jorst went to the United States from their native Denmark and established Skagen Designs. Skagen Designs was founded on the principle of creating beautifully designed high-quality objects at reasonable prices. The Skagen Designs collections reflect clean elegant designs.

Skagen watches are known for the slim 6-7 mm thick quartz watches. While these watches are interesting, slim watch, in our opinion are not the order of the day, and we really do prefer mechanical movements. During Christmas shopping, something caught our eye. It was a Skagen watch which was not ticking on the display shelf: a Skagen Automatic.

Skagen Automatic. Skagen's automatic combines a classic looking dial with a more contemporary looking leather band. Being an automatic, the Skagen watch is thicker than the quartz watches in Skagen's line-up at 11 milimeters. The watch has a 40 mm case diameter, which is about right for todays current fashion trends, even for a dressy watch.

Except for being Skagen's first automatic watch, there is nothing really significant about this watch. It is powered by a Japanese built automatic movement and has a uremarkable water risistance rating of 30 meters.

But having an automatic movement is significant enough. Prices at just under US$250, it meets Skagens goal of providing attractive looking high-quality objects at a reasonable price.
