Basel 2009 - Rolex 41mm & 36mm Datejusts continued

This article started here.

A change in the winds.
With the launch of the 41mm Day Date II in 2008, Rolex created its first men's dress watch with a case diameter of larger than 36mm's. At Baselworld 2009, the 41mm Datejust II was a welcome addition to the Rolex dress watch line-up.

Released side-by-side with Rolex's 41mm Datejust II, are eight new 36mm's Datejust which decidedly appeal to the fairer gender.

This has not been received well by some sectors who see this as the 36mm Datejust, being transformed from a men's watch to a women's watch. The men's 36mm Datejust is not going anywhere. For many men it is still the right size watch. The new designs do not herald the 36mm Datejust being transformed from a men's watch to a women's watch. It does herald a change in its status to a unisex watch.

Women have been wearing men's Rolex watches for some time. The new watches give them the option of picking the larger watch with a feminine slant. You can't expect 6' 1" tall Anna Ivanovic to wear a 31 mm watch.
