When is a watch considered vintage? There is no definitive answer to this question. Common usage of the term vintage and antique with reference to collectibles, is that it is vintage when it is at least 20 years old, and an antique when it is at least 100 years old. With references to watches, consensus seems to be that a watch is considered vintage when is is 20 or 25 years old. I would probably add that the watch should already be out of production.
A different kind of vintage. Left sitting in a drawer, for several years now I found an old Casio MRG-100T from 1996. This all-titanium watch was released in 1996. The owner, my brother-in-law does not remember exactly when he got it, but sometime in 1996 or 1997 sounds about right to him. While 20-25 years for a mechanical Swiss watch seems to be about right, when it comes to quartz watches, that may be a bit too long.
Checking online, its actually a lot easier to find the rare Rolex "Red" 1680 Submariner from the late 60's to early 70's or even the fabled Paul Newman Daytona. I only found one of these MRG-100's for sale, and the post was made two years ago.
Does rare make vintage?
