SIHH 2011: Officine Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Logo PAM00380

Black Seal. There is one last release by Officine Panerai to cover, the 45 mm Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Logo PAM00380. It is a time only watch, displaying only the hours minutes and second. It movement is a hand wound mechanical modified by Panera OP II movement. We did not know exactly what to make of this watch. Why, well it is strikingly similar in appearance to 45mm Panerai Radiomir Black Seal PAM00183.
The PAM00380

While both the PAM 183 and the new PAM 380, have hand wound movements, the PAM 183 uses the Panerai OP X calibre while the PAM 380 Panera OP II movement. Both movements produce 21,600 vibrations per hour and have the same 56 hour power reserve. The use of a different movement is not going to excite anybody, not providing any apparent advantages and is not of in-house manufacture.

The PAM00183. Note the pancake dial.
The differences between the PAM 183 and the new PAM 380 are in the dial. The PAM 183 uses the pancake dial with the recessed hour and second markers. With the pancake dial, the luminous material is applied on a layer below the dial, with the dial having cut-outs to display the material. The PAM 380 uses the more historic dial with the luminous material applied on top of the dial.

A closer look at the PAM00380 dial
The PAM 380 dial also has the Panerai logo on the dial. Okay, it is the least exciting Panerai release for the year. But not every release can be a blockbuster.
