There are fifty days to go before the BaselWorld 2011 show begins. BaselWorld is a yearly trade show for watches and jewelry held in the City of Basel, Switzerland. This year, the show will be held from March 24-31, 2011. Some 2000 companies from the watch, jewelery, precious-stone and related sectors will be presenting their new products and innovations, and of particular interest to this blog, Rolex, Patek Philippe and the Swatch Group.
The show dates back to 1917 when there was established the first Schweizer Mustermesse Basel which feature watches and jewelry among other things. In 1983 the show changed its name – it was called BASEL, plus two numerals denoting the exhibition year, for example in 1983 it was called BASEL 83. In 1995 the show once again officially changed its name for 'BASEL 95 - The World Watch, Clock and Jewellery Show'.
Over the next seven weeks, we will engage in the usual pre-Basel predictions that usually take place at this time of year. Sometime we are right, sometimes we are wrong... but it beats twiddling your thumbs.
Something we do expect to see this year, a new Rolex Explorer II |
