SIHH 2012: IWC to revamp part of the pilots watch line-up

Pilot's watches. It is still two weeks before SIHH 2012, but information on whihc line-up IWC will be revamping this year has already been released. In 2009, IWC revamped the entire Aquatimer line-up and in 2010 did an almost complete revamp of their Portuguese line. In 2011 it was the the Portofino line of watches that was updated. For 2012, it is IWC's line of Pilot's watches that will be updated.

One of the watches to be launched at SIHH 2012 by IWC is the Pilot's Watch Top Gun Miramar.

Miramar. Naval Air Station Miramar was the home of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School which was established in 1969. The United States Navy Fighter Weapons School was also informally known as "Top Gun". This is where IWC Top Gun watches get their inspiration.

The United States Navy Fighter Weapons School is no longer located at Naval Air Station Miramar, the program having been merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at NAS Fallon, Nevada in 1996.

The watch. For now, what I know is that the new IWC Pilot's Watch Top Gun Miramar has a large 48mm  ceramic case. Inside is an IWC's manufactured calibre 89365 movement, has a flyback chronograph sporting an impressive 168 hour power reserve.

I am not sure if this watch is being released in addition to the Pilot's Watch Double Chronograph Edition TOP GUN (Reference 3799) or as an additional model. Given the popularity of IWC's Pilots watches I do not think we will be seeing a full revamp of the line.

About IWC. IWC or the the "International Watch Co. Schaffhausen" was founded by an American engineer from Boston, Florentine Ariosto Jones, in Schaffhausen, Switzerland in the year 1868. IWC Schaffhausen is notable for being the only major Swiss watch factory located in eastern Switzerland, as the majority of the well-known Swiss watch manufacturers are located in western Switzerland.
