The year 2011 was the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex Cosmograph, and 2012 is the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. According to OysterInfo, the Rolex Cosmograph was launched in 1961, while the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was launched in 1962. So whether Rolex considers the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona as 2011 or 2012. In 2011, Rolex did launch a new variant of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, with a ceramic dial. This has been the most significant change in the look of the Daytona since 1988.
There was no indication that this ceramic bezzled watch was the Anniversary Edition.
This leads many to expect that Rolex will launch a all new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona this year at Basel 2012. Notably, Rolex has in the past let the 50th Anniversary of a watch pass without releasing a new model or even an Anniversary Edition.
We do think that a new version of Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. With Rolex's sports dress watches, the Datejust and the Day-Date, now being available in a larger 41 mm size, and the more than decade old trend to larger watches, we do expect to see Rolex's "Professional" or sports watches to migrate to a larger case size. Last year, at Basel 2011, Rolex's Explorer II came out with a new larger 42 mm case. It just seem to be a matter of time before a new larger 42 to 43 mm Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is released. 2012 seems to be as good a year as any.
